Femi Adebayo is urging Nigerian film professionals to learn how to use artificial intelligence rather than treat it only as a threat. Reports published on Tuesday, 3 November, describe his call for professional training, with particular attention to producing indigenous stories. QED identifies the remarks as coming from a TheCable interview shared on Instagram that day.
The actor and filmmaker believes AI can assist creative work when practitioners understand how to use it. New Telegraph also reported his argument that the technology could help Nollywood tell its own stories. That is his assessment of its potential. The reports do not provide a measured comparison of film budgets, production time or employment before and after adopting AI.
Training is central to the position he outlined. He wants professionals to develop the knowledge needed to apply the technology to their projects. The comments do not establish that a particular AI course is now open, identify an application deadline or promise free places. A call for skills development should therefore be distinguished from an invitation to enrol.
His remarks follow an earlier investment in physical filmmaking facilities. On 6 October, TheCable reported the opening of his Euphoria 360 Hub in the Ikeja area of Lagos, commissioned by deputy governor Obafemi Hamzat. The account described facilities for photography, editing, music and podcast production, alongside a cinema and training space. That October opening is background to the new comments.
The two developments address different parts of creative work: access to production facilities and the ability to use a particular technology. Neither the existence of a studio nor enthusiasm for AI demonstrates that every project will benefit. Adebayo’s argument gives training providers a practical question to answer: what will a filmmaker actually be able to do after the course?
What it means for you. If you are considering training, ask for the syllabus, a demonstration of the skills taught, the total cost and any equipment or software you must supply. Compare those details with the work you want to make. Treat claims about guaranteed earnings, employment or faster production as separate claims requiring evidence, rather than benefits established by this interview.
