Nigeria's government has announced ₦50,000 support for vulnerable households under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention, or NERSI. In a statement dated 30 October 2026, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Minister Bernard Doro described the intervention as a response to pressure from food prices and other essential expenses.

There is an important inconsistency in the government's own information. The minister's announcement describes monthly payments. The official programme website's frequently asked questions instead describe a one-off ₦50,000 grant. Readers should not assume repeated payments are guaranteed while these two descriptions remain different; the discrepancy needs clarification from the ministry.

The programme website says recipients are chosen using the National Social Register and verified national identity records. It says payments reach people in phases across all six geopolitical zones. Selection is based on need, according to the guidance, and nobody can sell a household a place on the beneficiary list.

The announcement says licensed financial-service providers will contact selected recipients and request consent before paying into an account or mobile wallet. The programme website names ALAT, MoMo PSB and NairaGram as providers. It also says a payment confirmation follows a wallet credit; receiving an unsolicited message alone is not proof that money has arrived.

Both official sources say people do not need to submit an application, pay a registration fee or use an agent to qualify. The programme guidance warns against messages asking for passwords, PINs, one-time codes or money to release support. It says genuine programme messages do not contain links to click.

Anyone uncertain about a message can check with the programme through its published helpline, 0700-022-2222. Wahala Today is reporting the announcement and the conflicting frequency descriptions, not registering beneficiaries. The announcement does not establish that every eligible household has already been paid or that every reader qualifies for assistance.
