Olamide’s Burukutu entered the Official Nigeria Top 100 at number nine in the weekly results TurnTable Charts published on 3 November. It was the Nigerian rapper’s 26th entry in the top ten. The figures behind that debut show how differently the same song can perform on radio and on streaming services.

TurnTable placed Burukutu fourth on its radio list, with a reported radio reach of 59.7 million. In its streaming figures the track was fiftieth, with 685,000 on-demand streams. A radio reach figure and a count of times people chose to stream a song measure different things. Adding them would not give a count of individual listeners.

For its combined weekly list, TurnTable gives weight to audio streams, video streams and radio airplay within Nigeria. A song can therefore appear in the national top ten even though it ranks much lower if you look only at streams. The published figures show that radio was the stronger part of Burukutu’s debut, without telling us who first heard the song where.

FOLA’s miss u ii (nriri) gives another example from the same release. It was first on radio and second on streaming, and held the overall number one spot for a third successive week. These are positions on TurnTable’s Nigerian charts. They describe a different listening pattern from Olamide’s top-ten entry.

Burukutu was available before this chart result. Olamide’s Audiomack page dates the release to 20 October. Apple Music also lists the track as a preview of Time and Space, his forthcoming album. The chart announcement concerns the single’s performance and does not mark the release of the full album.

What it means for you. When two music lists put the same song in different places, look at what each counts and the period it covers. Number nine is Burukutu’s position across TurnTable’s combined weekly measures. Number four describes radio alone and number fifty describes streaming alone.
