VFD Group reported profit after tax of ₦13 billion for January to September 2026, compared with ₦6.63 billion in the same period a year earlier. The company’s unaudited results put the increase at 96%, making profitability the headline feature of its latest reporting period.

Gross earnings reached ₦81.88 billion, while profit before tax stood at ₦15.34 billion. Net investment income was ₦72.18 billion. These figures describe different parts of the business’s performance and should not be added together as if they were separate piles of cash received.

The results also show the importance of funding costs. Finance costs were ₦43.33 billion, up 36% year on year, even as the company reported stronger profit. That places the cost of financing alongside investment returns as a key part of understanding the performance.

The figures are unaudited and cover nine months, rather than a complete financial year. Readers comparing companies or periods should keep those limits in view: a January–September result is not a full-year outcome, and the final quarter can still change the annual picture.

The group’s balance sheet also expanded: total assets stood at ₦577.64 billion at September’s end, compared with ₦445.81 billion at the end of 2025. Shareholders’ funds reached ₦130.02 billion. That comparison uses two balance-sheet dates, rather than the matching nine-month income periods used for the profit growth calculation.

For anyone examining the performance, the useful follow-up is to read the financial statements and notes alongside the headline growth rate. Questions include how earnings were generated, how much was converted into cash and what commitments remain. A rise in accounting profit alone does not answer every question about financial strength.

The next reporting period will give a clearer view of whether the stronger earnings continue as financing costs evolve. For now, VFD has reported a marked improvement in nine-month profit; the announcement should be read as a company financial result, rather than a prediction of future returns or a recommendation to buy its shares.
