Paris Saint-Germain had already scored four times when the clock at Villarreal reached 16 minutes and two seconds on Tuesday. The French club, captained by Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, went on to win 6–0 in Spain on 3 November. The record came early enough that neither of the second-half goals had any bearing on it.
João Neves got the first in the ninth minute. A corner from the left took a touch off Willian Pacho and fell to Neves close to goal. Three minutes later Maghnes Akliouche played in Désiré Doué, who scored from near the edge of the penalty area. Two different moves had produced two different scorers.
The third came from a second attempt. Renato Veiga blocked a shot by Neves, but Senny Mayulu reached the loose ball and struck a volley in the 13th minute. Akliouche then supplied Fabián Ruiz for the fourth. The match sheet puts that goal in minute 17. At 16:02 on the clock, the 17th minute was already under way.
That distinction explains the competition record reported by Paris and by Reuters, citing Opta. It concerns how soon a team reached four goals after kickoff, rather than the interval between its first and fourth goals. Four Paris players contributed one goal apiece to that total. Hakimi had a shot saved before the break.
Ruiz added the fifth in the 50th minute after a pass from Vitinha. The player who completed the scoring had started on the bench. David Boly replaced Hakimi in the 76th minute and scored two minutes later on his Champions League debut, turning a Neves delivery into the sixth goal.
The result gave Paris four wins from four matches in the league phase. For supporters following the Moroccan captain, the evening brought a team record and a clean sheet. His contribution and Boly’s debut goal belong to different parts of the game. The four-goal mark was already set before either player left or entered the field as part of that substitution.
