A gardener in Lagos looking for practical training can now apply for a short course at the University of Lagos. The Department of Botany and UNILAG Consult Ltd. announced the invitation on 3 November. They list the department in Akoka as the venue and give 7 November to 13 December 2026 as the course dates.
Two separate charges matter when comparing the course with other training. The application costs ₦20,000 and the training costs ₦100,000. Together the advertised fees come to ₦120,000. The notice does not say that paying the application fee secures a place or that it reduces the training fee.
The programme follows plants beyond the point where somebody buys a seedling. Participants are to learn how to establish and manage a nursery, design a planted space and maintain the vegetation already growing there. For someone who tends a compound or a public garden, looking after an existing planting is a different task from planning a new one.
Students are among those invited to apply. So are gardeners, construction workers and people employed by organisations, alongside professionals in horticulture, conservation and environmental work. The university describes practical instruction and opportunities to meet others working in these areas. It lists a certificate of participation as the credential.
The university notice provides a link to the application form and a QR code. It also gives enquiry numbers. It specifies a period for training but gives neither a closing date for applications nor a day-by-day timetable. The first training date therefore cannot serve as a verified deadline for submitting the form.
What it means for you. If you would have to travel to Akoka or take time away from work, ask the organisers which days require attendance before calculating your costs. Start from the two published fees, then work out your own transport expenses. The invitation and the details for contacting the organisers are on the university website.
